LEITMOTIV: GROUP SHOW

10 July - 8 August 2021

With the works of Aïcha Snoussi, Héla Ammar, Kévin-Ademola Sangosanya, Liên Hoàng-Xuân, May Murad, Mehryl Levisse, Ribal Molaeb, Shadi Alzaqzouq, Thilleli Rahmoun, Thomas Van Reghem.

Character, object, idea or emotion, the leitmotif marks canvas, walls, fabrics, bodies, skin and minds. Like Hector Berlioz's idée fixe in his Symphonie Fantastique, the leitmotif repeats its obsessive existence ad infinitum, here in a cloud of Indian ink motifs, ceramic tiles as the only horizon, textile ornaments, architectural lines in a city, metallic sparks like the nostalgia of faded traces of former homes, and bird wings wafting an effluvium of freedom. Leitmotifs declare their existence in a variety of forms, each charged with a distinct meaning, and lead a narrative to tell the story of their metamorphosis. They unfold their mythology, invoke spectres haunted by multiple emotions, and open windows onto a virtual reality that attempts to dialogue with the real. A rhyme in poetry, a refrain in music, and a form or color in the visible arts, the leitmotif is the principle of life itself, the repetition of a fragment and its evolution. It lives, cries out, expresses itself, imprints itself, grows, hides, reveals itself and seeks harmony.
