Alireza Shojaian

Born in Tehran, Iran, in 1988.

Lives and works in Paris.

Alireza Shojaian is an Iranian painter and visual activist. He depicts his subjects nude or partially nude in intimate and vulnerable compositions. His work aims to combat prejudice against LGBTQA+ populations while creating a space of expression dedicated to non-heteronormative masculine identities. Her work reflects the queer history of West Asia, its current context, and her personal experiences. Alizera Shojaian's sexuality made it impossible to pursue his artistic practice in Iran, where nudity is constantly censored and sexual orientation is instrumentalized and repressed by the ruling authorities.

In 2016, he moved to Beirut, and in 2019 was awarded an artistic residency at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris by the French Embassy in Lebanon.
